4:30 AM – The Early Wake-Up Call
Most outdoor shoots, especially those near Kozhikode Beach or Kappad, require capturing the golden hour. That means waking up at 4:30 AM. My morning routine is strictly about hydration and skincare to ensure my face is a fresh canvas for the makeup artist. A quick cup of strong Kerala black coffee, and I am out the door by 5:30 AM.
6:00 AM – Hair, Makeup, and Styling
When I arrive on set, the creative energy is already buzzing. I usually work with local Calicut makeup artists who are incredibly skilled at adapting to the humid Kerala weather. We discuss the moodboard while they work their magic. As someone who is also a graphic designer, I love discussing color theory and styling with the team to ensure the final images will look cohesive.
8:00 AM – The Shoot Begins
Once the camera starts clicking, the real work begins. The model life in Kozhikode requires a lot of adaptability. We might be shooting an elegant Kasavu saree on the bustling streets of SM Street, trying to dodge early morning shoppers while maintaining a serene expression. It takes intense focus to tune out distractions, follow the photographer's directions, and ensure every angle hits perfectly.
2:00 PM – Wrap Up and Post-Production
By early afternoon, the shoot wraps up. We review the raw images, and the team decides on the selects. But my day doesn't end there. Because I am a multi-skilled freelancer, my afternoons are often spent transitioning from model to video editor. I head back to my studio, fire up Premiere Pro, and start editing reels for other clients.
